“Facelift Lite” for the 40-Somethings

In case you haven’t heard, the 40s are the new 30s! Forty-somethings are embracing their wealth of life experience and self-confidence and rocking this decade by putting their best selves forward. It’s no wonder, then, that the cosmetic treatments that those in their 40s are after have shifted, too.

Not ready for a full-on facelift, many men and women in their 40s are turning to minimally-invasive facelift alternatives to help them look just as energized and youthful as they feel.

Injectables

Among the most popular facelift alternatives are injectables like dermal fillers and botulinum toxin injections. Fillers can “fill in” fine lines and wrinkles around your nose and mouth, as well as add a boost of youthful volume to your cheeks and lips.

If you’ve never tried fillers before, starting with a hyaluronic acid filler is recommended. These products offer soft, natural-looking results and can be dissolved at any time. If you’re already a filler pro and are looking for something a little longer lasting, consider other types of filler for lines and wrinkles such as Sculptra® or Bellafill®.

Fillers can be used on their own or in combination with botulinum toxin injections like BOTOX® or Dysport®. These injectable wrinkle treatments are most commonly used to treat lines and wrinkles on the forehead, between the brows and near the eyes.

Radiofrequency + Microneedling

Microneedling is a well-known skin rejuvenation treatment that works by creating tiny “micro-channels” within your skin, thus triggering the skin’s natural healing and self-rejuvenation process. Some of the latest microneedling devices like Vivace® also include radiofrequency energy, offering an added boost of collagen production and cell renewal.

The process for microneedling with radiofrequency is much the same as with traditional microneedling. Once the microneedles penetrate the skin, radiofrequency energy can be applied at various depths for optimal results.

Microneedling can treat a range of skin problems that 40-somethings often face, including wrinkles, enlarged pores, uneven skin texture and more.

Chin and Neck Contouring

Everyone is after a chiseled or well-defined jawline these days, particularly those in their 30s or 40s who may be just beginning to notice changes to their facial profiles with age. Excess fat in the submental or “under chin” area is a common obstacle to obtaining this desired jawline, as fat that accumulates in this area can be challenging to address through diet and exercise alone.

The good news is that there are non-surgical double chin treatment options such as CoolSculpting® that can contour your neck and jawline for a slimmer silhouette without surgery. CoolSculpting® can be used to reduce unwanted fat in virtually any area of the body, including your chin and neck.

Mini Facelift

Okay, so what if it’s not just excess fat in the chin and neck area, but some loose or sagging skin, too? In this case, many people in their 40s opt for a mini facelift, which offers the skin tightening benefits of a traditional facelift but with small incisions and a less extensive procedure. Mini facelifts typically focus on tightening loose skin in the neck and jaw, though they can be combined with other cosmetic treatments such as fillers or BOTOX to achieve more comprehensive results with minimized downtime and recovery.
