Your Body Needs Fat
For as much work as we put in trying to eliminate the fat from our bodies, the truth is that fat is essential for the body to function properly. Here in Tampa, cosmetic surgery tends to focus more on treating problem areas rather than eliminating fat entirely.
Good Fat
Not all fat is bad fat. Fats in food provide the most efficient energy for our body to use. Fats also help to build healthy cells by surrounding them with a protective membrane. Fats are also an essential component within the brain, building cell membranes there as well but also providing insulation around the nerve fibers (myelin) which helps messages from the brain travel through the body faster.
Fats in foods also help the body absorb necessary vitamins like A, D, E and K, and help to make hormones that regulate the body. When our bodies are deficient in fatty acids, our skin gets flaky and dry. Plus, the layer of fat below the skin helps provide insulation in cold weather, keeping us warmer in the winter. Our organs are protected from injury and too much motion by cushions of fat, and fat deposits give our bodies access to energy reserves.
Fat in Moderation
All these positive qualities of fat being said, of course there are times when fat appears in places we’d rather not have it. If you eat a healthy diet and get regular exercise, yet still have unsightly fat deposits, removing the fat cells with liposuction can help sculpt those areas into a more balanced appearance.
Liposuction from our practice is a quick and affordable way to fine-tune your body, especially problem areas like the love handles and abdomen. Call us today to arrange a consultation.
